How Czech phone numbers work
Nine digits, no area codes, and how numbers are grouped when spoken.
Czech numbers have nine digits with no area code. The international prefix is +420. Numbers starting 6 or 7 are mobile; landlines start with 2 to 5.
Numbers are normally written and spoken in three groups of three, which is worth knowing when someone reads one out to you quickly.
Practical notes
- 112 is the general emergency number; 155 is the ambulance service.
- Prepaid SIMs must be registered to an identity document.
- Most offices answer the phone in Czech; email or a data box message is often more reliable.
