Guide
Finding a doctor when you arrive
Registering with a GP, finding English-speaking practices, and what to do out of hours.
- Register with a GP (praktický lékař) as soon as your insurance starts — do not wait until you are ill.
- Your insurer publishes a list of contracted practices; ask specifically for ones accepting new patients.
- Several Prague practices work primarily in English, and some charge private rates on top of insurance.
- Out of hours, use an emergency service (pohotovost) rather than a hospital emergency department for non-urgent problems.
- Call 155 for an ambulance and 112 for general emergencies.
