Glossary

občanka

Pronounced ob-chan-ka

In one line

The Czech national identity card, held by citizens.

Where you meet it

Forms and staff often ask for an občanka by default. As a foreign national you show your passport or residence card instead.

The fuller explanation

Officially občanský průkaz. Foreign residents hold a biometric residence card or a registration certificate rather than an občanka, and these are accepted in its place.
