How public transport tickets work

Prague tickets are valid for a period of time rather than a single journey, and cover metro, tram, bus, funicular and much of the suburban rail network within the city zones.

• Short and standard single tickets cover 30 and 90 minutes respectively.
• Buy through the PID Lítačka app, at a ticket machine, or at the orange contactless terminal on a tram or city bus.
• If you board without a valid ticket and the vehicle has a ticket terminal, buy one immediately. A ticket bought at the onboard terminal is valid from purchase; a paper ticket bought elsewhere must be stamped at the start of the journey, and an app ticket must be activated before boarding.
• Monthly, quarterly and annual passes are held on a Lítačka account and cost far less per day.
• Inspectors may be in plain clothes. They identify themselves with an inspection badge and official carrier ID, and require a valid ticket; not knowing the rule does not make an invalid journey valid.
• If you do not pay the penalty at inspection, you must show state-issued ID and provide the personal details needed for recovery. If you neither pay nor present ID, you must remain at the inspection place or accompany the inspector to a police station for identity verification.
