Useful Czech phrases for everyday administration

A short list that covers most counter conversations.

  • Dobrý den — Good day (always open with this)
  • Mluvíte anglicky? — Do you speak English?
  • Nerozumím — I don't understand
  • Potřebuji … — I need …
  • Kde je …? — Where is …?
  • Můžete to napsat? — Could you write that down?
  • Kolik to stojí? — How much does it cost?
  • Mám objednáno — I have an appointment
  • Děkuji — Thank you
  • Na shledanou — Goodbye

Writing the phrase you need on a card and handing it over works well at busy counters, and is easier than trying to pronounce it under pressure.
