Motorists entering Prague from the D8 motorway are facing lane restrictions on one of the capital's key northeastern routes until 10 December.

Roadworks on Cínovecká Street began on Friday, 23 October. The city's Technical Administration of Communications (TSK) is resurfacing a stretch of almost 2.5km, from Martínský potok to Rochlická Street.

Crews will strip the old asphalt, repair the ground beneath it and adjust the drainage. They will then lay a new surface, repair crash barriers, level the kerbs and repaint the road markings. TSK spokeswoman Barbora Lišková said the job was a standard resurfacing with associated repairs.

What it means for drivers

Traffic heading into the city centre will be squeezed into a single lane on Cínovecká Street towards Kbelská Street and Hloubětín. The second lane will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway of Liberecká Street, with traffic rejoining the normal route near Rochlická Street.

Several connections will also be shut while the work continues:

  • Exits from Cínovecká and Liberecká towards the Vysočanská–Rochlická junction
  • The link from Kostelecká Street onto Cínovecká towards the centre

TSK suggests drivers use Ďáblická Street instead, or divert via Tupolevova and Prosecká.

Part of a wider project

The work has been timed to coincide with the third phase of construction on the ramps at the Kbelská interchange, in an effort to keep traffic moving across the northeastern side of the city. The disruption will be felt in Prague 8, Prague 9 and Prague 18.

To limit further congestion, a 24-hour emergency towing service will operate near the site, removing broken-down vehicles free of charge.

Commuters from northern Bohemia and others arriving via the D8 are advised to follow the temporary signs and allow extra time for their journeys.
