Get ready for more trolleybuses in Prague.

Although the Prague Public Transport Company has so far taken delivery of only 13 of the 30 new Bozankaya SNG 12T trolleybuses, this is sufficient to replace the buses on two further routes.

From Saturday 17 October, services will therefore commence on trolleybus routes 51 (Hradčanská – Hanspaulka – Bořislavka) and 53 (Karlovo náměstí – Švandovo divadlo – Stadion Strahov). They will complement route 52 to Waltrovka and Jinonice, where the new trolleybuses have been running since September. The trio of routes on the new trolleybus lines, completed in the first half of this year, will thus be complete.

Both trolleybus routes will now operate at full capacity at weekends, replacing bus routes 131 and 176. On weekdays, they will continue to supplement these bus routes by approximately half.

As before, the Turkish-built trolleybuses will also be supported by four SOR TNS 12 vehicles, previously acquired from the manufacturer as compensation for the delayed introduction of trolleybuses on route 58 to Letňany.

Once the remaining 17 Bozankaya trolleybuses have been accepted, the diesel buses will serve only as a backup. This is already the case on route 52 and on the existing routes 58 to Letňany and 59 to Ruzyně Airport.

Prague officially launched passenger services on the two completed trolleybus routes, 51 and 53, back in June this year. However, passengers could only come across trolleybuses on these routes by chance. Electric services on both restored routes to Bořislavka and Strahov have so far only been provided outside the regular bus timetables.
