Registering a child's residence
A child born here or joining you needs their own residence permission — it does not come from yours automatically.
What this actually is
Foreign nationals' children have their own residence status. For a child born in Czechia to parents holding residence permits, an application is normally made shortly after birth. For a child arriving from abroad, the route is family reunification or, for family of EU citizens, the family-member residence route.

Foreign national parents of a child born in Czechia, and parents bringing a child to live with them.
When it's required
For a child born here, within the statutory deadline after birth. For a child arriving from abroad, before or on arrival depending on the route.
Step by step

Get the birth certificate first
The application cannot be made without it.

Identify the right route
Long-term residence for family reunification, EU family member residence, or registration alongside an EU parent.

Book an appointment with the Ministry of the Interior
Appointments for the foreign nationals' agenda are usually booked in advance and can be slow.

Submit the application with proof of accommodation and insurance
The child's health insurance normally has to be in place already.

Attend biometrics and collect the card
Children are issued their own residence card.
