Extending an employee card or changing employer
What to do before an employee card expires, and the notification duty when your job or employer changes.
What this actually is
An employee card (zaměstnanecká karta) is tied to a specific job with a specific employer. Changing employer, position or being added a second job requires notifying the Ministry of the Interior in advance — it is not automatic, and working before the change is accepted puts your residence at risk.
Who it applies to
Third-country nationals holding an employee card or a blue card.
When it's required
Before the card expires, and at least 30 days before starting with a new employer.
Step by step
- 1
Check your card's expiry and job details
The card lists the employer and position it covers.
- 2
Notify a change of employer in advance
The notification is filed with the Ministry of the Interior, with the new employment contract attached.
- 3
Wait for confirmation before starting
You may only begin the new job once the change has been accepted.
- 4
File the extension in good time
Bring an updated contract, proof of accommodation and proof of income.
- 5
Collect the new card
You will be asked to attend for biometrics.
