What this actually is

When employment ends, your employer stops paying your health insurance. Registering as a jobseeker with the Labour Office (úřad práce) means the state pays it for you and may open entitlement to unemployment benefit. Register promptly — the health insurance gap is what usually costs people money.

Who it applies to

People whose employment has ended and who are lawfully entitled to work in Czechia.

When it's required

Within three working days of your employment ending, if you want the state to take over health insurance from the following day.

Step by step

Collect your leaving documents
Employment confirmation (zápočtový list) and the confirmation used for benefit purposes.

Register at the Labour Office
Register at the branch for your place of residence, in person or electronically.

Tell your health insurer
Confirm the Labour Office reported you; keep your own confirmation of registration.

Check permit implications
If you hold an employee card, notify the Ministry of the Interior — a protection period applies for finding new work.
