Glossary

soudní tlumočník / soudní překladatel

Pronounced sood-nyee tlu-moch-neek

In one line

A court-appointed interpreter or translator whose work Czech offices accept as official.

Where you meet it

Foreign documents must be translated by one, and a wedding needs one present if a partner does not understand Czech.

The fuller explanation

Ordinary translations are not accepted. Court-appointed translators are listed in an official register kept by the Ministry of Justice, and they attach a clause and stamp to the translation. For ceremonies, the interpreter attends in person and signs the record.
