Proof of accommodation from your landlord

For most residence applications and address changes, a lease alone is often not enough. Foreign nationals are usually asked for a confirmation of accommodation (potvrzení o zajištění ubytování) — a short form signed by the property owner, confirming that you may live at the address.

The owner's signature is normally officially verified, which is done at a Czech Point counter in a post office or at a town hall.

Ask before you sign the lease

• Say clearly that you will need a signed confirmation of accommodation, and that the signature must be officially verified.
• Some landlords refuse, or charge for it. It is far easier to find this out before you commit.
• If the flat has several owners, all of them normally have to sign.
• Keep the original safe and take copies — you will be asked for it again at renewals and address changes.
